How to make wicking bed (seedbed with built-in reservoir)

2017.08.03

These days, the temperature in Za’atari refugee camp reaches over 40 degrees Celsius every day. The low level of water becomes even more limited during this season.

JEN is carrying out a water saving garden project. The main characteristic of this project is to use seedbed with built-in reservoir, which only requires 2 liters of water per day. We plan to distribute this seedbed to residents for them to grow flowers and herbs, hoping to provide emotional support to their life.
We would like to introduce briefly how to make Wicking Bed, where you can raise plants even in small spaces.

7.When completed, pour around 200 liters of water little by little into the container so that water sufficiently soak into seedbed. From there on, by using the system of water passing through the pipe and flowing upwards through soil, pour 2 liters of water every day to grow the plant.

This Wicking Bed can provide residents an environment to grow their favorite plant without worrying about the level of water consumption.
